Coach Carrie Puhalla is in her ninth season as head coach at Southeast Community College-Beatrice. Puhalla’s team placed second in the Region IX tournament last season and third in the NCCAC. This year the Storm look to build on their strong finish to last season with the help of two returning starters and a strong freshman class.
During her eight seasons at SCC, Puhalla has had 23 Academic All-Americans and six of her teams have been Academic All Americans. She has also coached 21 All-Region players as well as, 23 All-Conference players.
Prior to coming to SCC, Puhalla worked at Lewiston Consolidated Schools and Johnson County Central. Before, that she taught physical education at both St. Isidores and St. Bonventure in Columbus and also served as assistant varsity volleyball coach at St. Paul High School. She also was head volleyball coach and guidance counselor at Bishop Neuman High School in Wahoo.
Besides her duties as head volleyball coach at SCC, Puhalla also is the Director of Student Activities. She also sponsors Student Senate and Phi Theta Kappa on the Beatrice Campus.
Coach Puhalla is a native of St. Paul, NE, where she graduated from St. Paul High School and participated in many sports. Puhalla received many awards for playing volleyball, including a scholarship to play at Northwest Missouri State University. She played for three years for the Bearcats and earned a Bachelor’s degree in secondary education. Coach Puhalla and her husband Tom and daughters, Shayla 8 and Ashlyn 6 live in Pawnee County on the family farm.
